Speed Racer
Speed Racer with Emile Hirsch: DVD Cover The story begins when Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch "Into The Wild") is a young man with natural racing instincts whose goal is to win The Crucible, a cross-country car racing rally that took the life of his older brother, Rex Racer (Scott Porter "Music and Lyrics"). Speed is loyal to the family business, run by his parents Pops (John Goodman "Barton Fink") and Mom (Susan Sarandon "Dead Man Walking"). Pops designed Speed's race car, the Mach 5. The owner of Royalton Industries makes Speed a lucrative offer to race for them, but Speed rejects it, angering the owner. Speed also uncovers a secret that top corporate interests, including Royalton, are fixing races and cheating to gain profit.

After Speed turns down the offer, Royalton wants to ensure that he will not win any more races. Speed gets support from his parents and his girlfriend Trixie (Christina Ricci "Monster") and enters The Crucible in a partnership with his one-time rival, Racer X (Matthew Fox "Vantage Point"). Together they try to rescue Speed's family business and the sport of racing itself.

This loud, bright, visually astonishing blast of pure pop family entertainment was directed by Andy and Larry Wachowski ("The Matrix). It will probably appeal to boys of all ages and maybe even some of the girls.
